The President of the Republic opened a cross country skiing trip at Aegviidu

President Arnold Rüütel opened the ''President's Ski Trip'' at AegviiduPresident Arnold Rüütel today, on the square in front of Aegviidu railway station, opened the ''President's Ski Trip'', which was already the second such trip in succession. There were two trails, a ten and a fifteen-kilometre-long that started from Aegviidu went on to Nelijärve, and further on across beautiful landscape of Jäneda.

Opening the ski trip the President of the Republic spoke about the importance of sports for fitness. According to President Rüütel a person's state of health mostly depended on that person himself or herself and only to a small extent on doctors. ''Therefore it is good if we all are ready to take a good care of our health and when going to a ski or hiking trip invite also our neighbours to join in,'' the President of the Republic said opening the skiing event.

The Head of State and Mrs. Ingrid Rüütel visited the Aegviidu Nature House where the authorities of Aegviidu municipality introduced the municipality's plans for future. After that, President Rüütel and Mrs. Ingrid Rüütel went for a hiking trip to Jäneda, walking through the places familiar from the school years of the President. After a soup lunch at Musta Täku Tall restaurant the awarding ceremony of the participants of the ski trip took place and a group photo was taken where also President Rüütel was present.

President Rüütel also participated in the discussion on the topic ''Is sport for fitness a concern of the individual or the state? Estonian and European cases'', which took place at Jäneda Manor, and where the General Secretary of the Estonian Olympic Committee Toomas Tõniste made a presentation on the exercising habits of the adult population in Estonia.

The second in succession skiing event ''President's Ski Trip'' was organised by MTÜ SK Presidendirada in cooperation with the Estonian Olympic Committee and the Estonian Ski Association.
