The President of the Republic sent congratulations on the occasion of the Day of Independence of the Republic of Lithuania
16.02.2005

President Rüütel today sent his congratulations to President of the Republic of Lithuania Valdas Adamkus on the occasion of the Day of Independence of the Republic of Lithuania.

The President of the Republic expressed his confidence that traditionally good relations between Estonia and Lithuania would continue to grow, benefiting the people of our two countries and enhancing understanding between nations in general.

President Rüütel stressed the importance of defending our common viewpoints in the European Union and NATO, as well as in other international organisations. ''Being a patriot of the Baltic cooperation, I would like to stress the importance of our cooperation, both today and in longer perspective, as many problems that our countries have to face have their roots in the past. We have inherited many similar problems from the past. I highly appreciate the Baltic sense of unity, and I am genuinely pleased that Estonia and Lithuania are ready to continue cooperation in protecting our common goals,'' the President of the Republic noted.

The Head of the State wished the President of the Republic of Lithuania every success, and to the Republic of Lithuania prosperity and wellbeing.
