The President of the Republic met with the Ambassador of Greece

President Arnold Rüütel received the credentials of the Ambassador of Greece Christos KarapanosPresident Arnold Rüütel today at Kadriorg received the credentials of the Ambassador of Greece Christos Karapanos.

According to the President of the Republic, Estonia and Greece are connected by close, built on confidence relations in many different fields, which are based on common understanding, common political features and economic interests.

The Estonian Head of State noted that cultural relations have been an important axis in the relations of the two countries. President Rüütel recognized also the importance of the contacts between scientists, exchange of students and communication between young people. ''We see broad cooperation prospects in the fields of marine and transit transport, ports and ship building, but also in the field of high technology. Estonia is also interested in cooperation in tourism,'' the President of the Republic said.

Ambassador Karapanos said that despite of a big geographical distance between Estonia and Greece, the two countries share the same principles of justice, freedom and democracy.

The President of the Republic wished Ambassador Karapanos success in his mission of promoting the relations between Estonia and Greece.
