The President of the Republic received the Order of Merit of Toompea Defence League Sub-Unit

The Chief of Toompea Defence League Sub-Unit, Heiki Arike and Lieutant Taivo Runno presented President Arnold Rüütel the Order of Merit of Toompea Defence League Sub-UnitThe Chief of Toompea Defence League Sub-Unit, Heiki Arike and Lieutant Taivo Runno today at Kadriorg presented President Arnold Rüütel the Order of Merit of Toompea Defence League Sub-Unit.

Handing over the award, the Chief of Defence League Sub-Unit said that the Order of Merit is a symbol of unity and it is given to the members of Defence League Sub-Unit and to persons who have rendered service to the Sub-Unit. Heiki Arike thanked President Rüütel on behalf of the Sub-Unit for his contribution to the re-establishment of the Defence League and to its further development.

Accepting the Order of Merit, the President of the Republic said that in his capacity as the supreme commander of the national defence of Estonia and as a member of the Defence League's Unit, it was a great honour to receive that high recognition. The Head of the State also stressed the essential role of the Defence League as a component of our national defence and an organisation that enhances the readiness and will of our citizens to defend their country.

President Rüütel is a member of the Defence League's Council of Elders and a member of Toompea Defence League Sub-Unit.
