The Young Scientist Prize of the President's Cultural Foundation goes to Jaan Raik

The Board of the President's Cultural Foundation today at its session decided to award the Young Scientist Prize of the Year 2004 to Jaan Raik Ph.D., a senior researcher at the Tallinn Technical University, whose works in developing a theory of diagnostics of digital systems and analysis of test synthesis in creating algorithms have aroused interest in over 90 laboratories in more than 30 countries. The President of the Republic will hand over the prize at 3 pm on December 10.

Dr. Raik has written more than 100 various articles in such prestigious scientific publications as Kluwer Academic Publisher's Journal of Electronic Testing, and the others. His practical work in promoting Estonian industry and launching a science development centre is also significant.

This year there were 17 candidates for the Young Scientists Prize. According to the members of the Board the list of nominees included quite a number of very good top-level scientists.

The Young Scientist Prize, awarded the fifth time already, was founded and is funded by Toomas Luman. The prize in the amount of 50 000 kroons is awarded to young scientists of Estonian origin having doctor's degree and doing research work at an Estonian or foreign university or research institution.
