The President of the Republic met with the Ambassador of Ecuador

The President of the Republic met with the Ambassador of Ecuador, Carlos Jįtiva NaranjoPresident Arnold Rüütel today at Kadriorg received the credentials of the Ambassador of Ecuador, Carlos Játiva Naranjo.

The President of the Republic said that in spite of the geographical distance Estonia and Ecuador have developed many common interests in several international organizations that join the two countries. ''One of the perspective areas of cooperation is the reliable and friendly cooperation in the UN,'' mentioned the Head of State.

President Rüütel stated that Estonia having obtained the status of permanent observer to the Organisation of American States intends to intensify its contacts with South American countries through that organisation. ''Being represented on such a level, we are sure to have a better overview of the cooperation of the American countries and can more precisely plan the development of relations with Ecuador,'' said the Head of State.

Ambassador Naranjo congratulated the Republic of Estonia on its accession to NATO and the European Union. According to the Ambassador Ecuador is willing to promote economic relations with Estonia, improving its position as a world famous supplier of roses, also there is a will to explore the possibilities dealing with enhanced agricultural materials and seafood.

The President of the Republic wished Ambassador Naranjo success in promoting friendship and cooperation between Estonia and Ecuador.
