The President of the Republic greeted the Prime Minister of Bulgaria

President Arnold Rüütel at Kadriorg greeted the Prime Minister of Bulgaria, Simeon Saxe-Coburg GothaThe president of the Republic, today, at Kadriorg, greeted the Prime Minister of Bulgaria, Simeon Saxe-Coburg Gotha, who is on an official visit to Estonia, and the Minister of European Affairs of Bulgaria, Meglena Kuneva, who is accompanying the Prime Minister.

The meeting addressed first of all issues related to the EU accession, which for Estonia has already happened, but for Bulgaria it is still to come in the next few years. The Prime Minister of Bulgaria noted that the experience Estonia has accumulated is valuable and Bulgaria counts on Estonia's support and assistance in the process of the EU accession. According to the President of the Republic, Estonia is willing to support Bulgaria in its endeavours.

Also bilateral relations were discussed, which are rather modest yet, but both Estonia and Bulgaria are interested in further development of relations. The Estonian Head of State said that quick development of cooperation is possible in the field of education, science and tourism, but he also stressed the importance of economic cooperation. Mr. Simeon Saxe-Coburg Gotha recalled his visit to Estonia four years ago, which gave him a lot of new knowledge about this region and pleasant impressions of the Old Town and quickly developing passengers' port in Tallinn.

In the course of the meeting, President Rüütel gave an overview of Via Baltica and Rail Baltica projects. Also cooperation in the Balkans region and Southern Caucasus was discussed and both sides recognised that the role of the UN in resolving global problems should be increased.
