The President of the Republic to embark on an official visit to Armenia

President Arnold Rüütel and Mrs. Ingrid Rüütel, on November 13, at the invitation of the President of the Republic of Armenia will embark on an official visit to Armenia.

During the visit bilateral relations between Estonia and Armenia, the EU neighbourhood policy and Armenian-Russian relations will be discussed. Special attention will be paid to the development of mutual cooperation in the fields of culture and economy.

On Sunday, the President of the Republic is going to visit Garni Temple, Geghard Monastery and Sergey Parajanov Museum where Estonian and Armenian Ministers of Culture sign a cultural cooperation agreement between Estonia and Armenia.

On Monday, President Rüütel is scheduled to meet with the President of Armenia Robert Kocharian, the Chairman of the National Assembly Artur Bagdhdasaryan and the Prime Minister of Armenia Andranik Margaryan. Thereafter the President of the Republic will visit the Genocide Museum and will lay a wreath at the monument of the Genocide Memorial. On the same day the Head of Estonian State will open an Estonian-Armenian business seminar.

On Monday, the President of the Republic of Armenia Robert Kocharian and Mrs. Bella Kocharian will host a dinner in honour of the President of the Republic and Mrs. Ingrid Rüütel.

On Tuesday, President Rüütel is going to deliver a lecture "Estonia and Armenia in Europe" at the Yerevan University and will familiarize himself with old manuscripts in the Matenadaran Institute, the exposition of the Armenian National Museum and visit Yerevan brandy distillery.

The Minister of Trade and Economic Development Karen Chamarityan and Mrs. Narine Shabaszyan will host a dinner in honour of the President of the Republic and Mrs. Ingrid Rüütel on Tuesday.

On Tuesday afternoon, the Head of Estonian State will meet with the Supreme Patriarch and Catholicos of All Armenians His Holiness Karekin II and will visit the Holy Echmiadzin Cathedral.

The official delegation accompanying the President of the Republic includes among others the Minister of Culture Urmas Paet, the Minister for Regional Affairs Jaan Õunapuu, the State Secretary Heiki Loot, the Governor of Järva County Üllar Vahtramäe, the Rector of Tartu University Jaak Aaviksoo and the Mayor of Tartu Laine Jänes. The Head of State on his visit will be accompanied also by an 11-member business delegation headed by the Chairman of the Board of the Estonian Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Toomas Luman.

The President of the Republic will arrive back in Estonia on Tuesday, November 16.
