At the conference that took place in the National Library of Estonia nine this year's nominees for the title The Farmer of the Year presented the results of their present year's work. Thereafter, a discussion on the issue ''How to Communicate with the European Union?'' took place, in which Minister of Agriculture Ester Tuiksoo, the Ex-ministers Ivari Padar, Jaanus Marrandi and Tiit Tammsaar as well as representative of agricultural producers in Brussels Aivar Niinemäe participated.
The Chairman of Jury, Professor Olev Saveli, announced two title winners. The titles The Farmer of the Year 2004 were awarded to Aavo Mölder, Manager of AS Tartu Agro, and Andres Härm, Manager of Haage Agro OÜ.
The President of the Republic congratulated the title winners on this important acknowledgement. In his address, President Rüütel stressed the significance of further promotion of agricultural education since according to statistics only one in four managers of agricultural enterprises had necessary qualifications. However, in the words of the Head of State, these very enterprises gave two thirds of Estonia's standardized gross agricultural income.
