The President of the Republic welcomed the President of Georgia
12.10.2004

The President of Georgia, Mikheil Saakashvili, and Mrs. Sandra Elisabeth Roelofs today arrived on an official visit to Estonia and were at Kadriorg welcomed by the President of the Republic and Mrs. Ingrid Rüütel.

At the official welcoming ceremony in front of the Presidential Palace the national anthems of Georgia and Estonia were played. The welcoming ceremony was followed by a tete-a-tete meeting between the Presidents and, thereafter, by a meeting together with delegations. The meeting addressed opportunities to promote cooperation between Estonia and Georgia.

President Saakashvili said at the meeting that he was inspired by Estonia's success and achievements, and that Georgia was willing to learn from Estonia in many areas. President Rüütel said at the meeting that Estonia supported Georgia in carrying out democratic reforms and was interested in both cooperation on political issues and closer economic relations.

The two Heads of State signed a Joint Declaration, which defines several vital areas of the future cooperation between Estonia and Georgia. The full text of the Declaration can be accessed at: http://www.president.ee/eng/avaldused/.

The Presidents also held a joint press conference. This evening, the President of the Republic and Mrs. Ingrid Rüütel will host a dinner in honour of the President of Georgia and Mrs. Sandra Elisabeth Roelofs.
