President Rüütel received credentials of Lebanese Ambassador Massoud MaaloufPresident Arnold Rüütel today at Kadriorg received the credentials of Lebanese Ambassador Massoud Maalouf.

According to the President of the Republic, bilateral relations between Estonia and Lebanon had developed in a friendly atmosphere and respecting each other's interests, yet the intensity of our relations so far had been relatively moderate.

The Estonian Head of State noted that Estonia and Lebanon being small maritime countries, which had frequently been hit by whirlwinds of history, had many similar features. ''I am hopeful that in collaboration with you, Mr. Ambassador, we will identify new opportunities to increase the volume of reciprocal investments as well as to enliven our economic relations in their entirety,'' President Rüütel added.

Ambassador Maalouf congratulated the Republic of Estonia on its accession to NATO and the European Union, and noted that the Association Agreement concluded between Lebanon and the European Union provided for cooperation in political, economic, cultural, as well as environmental field.

The President of the Republic wished Ambassador Maalouf success in promoting the Estonian-Lebanese relationship.
