The President of the Republic met the President of El Salvador

President Arnold Rüütel met with El Salvadorian President Elķas Antonio SacaPresident Arnold Rüütel today in New York met with El Salvadorian President Elķas Antonio Saca.

The meeting discussed how to deepen relations between our two countries. Both Presidents agreed that the two countries, in spite of the geographical distance, had a lot to offer each other, including in the field of culture. Estonia's recently started participation in the cooperation between the European Union and Central American countries offers additional opportunities for the promotion of bilateral economic relations.

The President of the Republic at the meeting gave a brief overview of the Estonian reform experience and exemplified the progress of civil society in Estonia by our National Agreement.

The Head of State of El Salvador assured that his country was interested in Estonia's experience, saying: "Estonia as one of the most developed countries in the field of information technology is an exemplary model." President Saca also outlined El Salvador's success in combating poverty.

President Rüütel and President Saca decided that the future cooperation between their countries should be enhanced by mutual appointment of honorary consuls.
