The President of the Republic received the NATO Military Committee
10.09.2004

President Arnold Rüütel today at the Kadriorg Art Museum received the NATO Military Committee consisting of the NATO Member Countries' commanders of defence forces that tomorrow is going to have an official meeting in Tallinn.

The President of the Republic in his address said that public support for NATO had been strong and stable in Estonia. "The stable public support for NATO derives from NATO's capability to act and also from the fact that the values and the role of NATO are important in today's troubled world," noted the Estonian Head of State.

President Rüütel added that NATO, an organisation that comprises 26 states, played an immeasurable role in maintaining peace and stability in the world. "Estonia feels the support and solidarity of all NATO members. A remarkable example of such support is NATO's Baltic air-policing mission which we hope to continue in future too," the President of the Republic told.

The Chairman of NATO's Military Committee, General Harald Kujat, in his reply thanked the President of the Republic and the whole of Estonia for an excellent reception and announced that the NATO Military Committee was in favour of continuing NATO's Baltic air-policing mission.
