The President of the Republic continues his county visit to Harjumaa

The President of the Republic visited the Muuga Harbour, where the President of the Republic was welcomed by the Chairman of the Management Board of the Port of Tallinn, Mart ToomingThe second day of President Arnold Rüütel's visit to the County of Harjumaa began with visiting the Muuga Harbour, where the President of the Republic was welcomed by the Chairman of the Management Board of the Port of Tallinn, Mart Tooming, and Members of the Board. Chairman Tooming gave President Rüütel an overview of the history, activities and future plans of the Port of Tallinn and the Muuga Harbour. President Rüütel took interest in the project to build a new harbour in Saaremaa and expressed hope that all stakeholders reached an agreement, which would enable to start investing this very same year. The Head of State brought up the subject of the safety of the planned port and expressed hope that the Port of Tallinn would take all necessary measures to guarantee the safety. Mart Tooming assured that for the Port of Tallinn safety and environment-friendliness were priorities. President Rüütel familiarized himself with the water area of the Muuga Harbour as well.

Mrs. Ingrid Rüütel this morning visited the Boarding House of Merivälja and the Church of Jõelähtme. The President and the First Lady further visited the Visitors' Centre and Museum of the Rebala Heritage Reserve.

The President of the Republic at the Village of Valkla, where he attended a ceremony on the occasion of the 15th anniversary of the reopening of the local monument to the War of IndependenceThe President of the Republic next travelled to the Village of Valkla, where he attended a ceremony on the occasion of the 15th anniversary of the reopening of the local monument to the War of Independence, laid a wreath at the memorial stone and talked with local people.

In the morning, President Rüütel also visited the Joint Stock Company Balti Spoon, which is the biggest employer in the Rural Municipality of Kuusalu. Mrs. Rüütel visited the Village Hall of Kuusalu, where she met with representatives of local cultural societies.

Thereafter, the President of the Republic and the First Lady at the Kolga Manor met with the Board of Harjumaa's Association of Local Governments. The meeting addressed the administrative and educational reforms, and noted that the state should have more trust in local governments. President Rüütel said that he had been glad to see in Harjumaa so beautiful villages and competitive enterprises using modern technologies.

In conclusion of their visit to Harjumaa, the President and Mrs. Ingrid Rüütel will visit the Kruusimäe Farm, the farm of painter Ave Nahkur and the Kivi Tourist Farm.
