The President of the Republic embarked on a county visit to Harjumaa

The President of the Republic at the Muraste Border Guard SchoolPresident Arnold Rüütel and Mrs. Ingrid Rüütel from 10th to 11th August are on a visit to the County of Harjumaa to see the county's enterprises, educational and cultural establishments, and to meet with local people.

This morning, the Head of State was welcomed at the County Government of Harjumaa by County Governor Orm Valtson who gave him an overview of Harjumaa's peculiarities and the county government's activities and future plans. The County Governor expressed his delight that President Rüütel was the first President of the Republic to pay a visit to the County of Harjumaa.

According to County Governor Orm Valtson, it could be envisaged that in the near future even more residents of Tallinn would move to other parts of the county and the county government's biggest challenge was how to make up for this process.

From the County Government of Harjumaa the President of the Republic travelled to the Muraste Border Guard School, where he was welcomed by the Head of School, Lieutenant Colonel Jüri Kalve, and the Chief of Staff acting as Director General of the Board of Border Guard, Colonel Aare Evisalu. Lieutenant Colonel Jüri Kalve briefed the Head of State on the history, operations and development plans of the Border Guard School.

The President of the Republic visited the Joint Stock Company Keila Kaabel, where Manager Tarvo Lepik provided an overview of the company's operationsPresident Rüütel next travelled to the Town of Keila, where he met with its Mayor Ago Kokser. According to Mayor Kokser, Keila with the number of jobs in it steadily increasing and the demand for employees constantly rising was developing rapidly. The President of the Republic also visited the Joint Stock Company Keila Kaabel, the biggest cable manufacturer in the Baltic countries, where Manager Tarvo Lepik provided an overview of the company's operations. Mrs. Ingrid Rüütel in the morning visited the Orphanage of Haiba, the Museum of Harjumaa at Keila and the Basic School of Vasalemma.

The President and Mrs. Rüütel also called at the Kopli Madise Farm that is engaged in pig breeding and agritourism.

In the afternoon, the President of the Republic and the First Lady are going to visit the Town Government of Paldiski, a boat yard of the PLC Bell Boats, the Esko Farm in the Rural Municipality of Saku, the School of Kajamaa and the Farm Museum of Metsanurme.
