The President of the Republic met the Chairman of the European Union Military Committee

The President of the Republic today at Kadriorg received the Chairman of the European Union Military Committee, General Rolando Mosca Moschini, who was accompanied by the Commander of the Estonian Defence Forces, Vice-Admiral Tarmo Kõuts, and the Estonian Military Representative to NATO and the European Union, Lieutenant General, Johannes Kert.

The meeting addressed the planned EU takeover of the NATO-led SFOR, EU objectives for building up defence structures and Estonia's contribution to developing military capabilities of the European Union.

General Moschini underscored that any contribution to safeguarding security in the world was important, and that Estonia's role in this respect had been of high quality and most welcome.

President Rüütel said that Estonia was also in future ready to make its contribution in order to safeguard security both in its own region and in the whole world.
