The President of the Republic at a joint parade of the Defence Forces of Latvia, Estonia and Lithuania delivered an address. According to President Rüütel, by holding today's parade we celebrated both the victory won 85 years ago and the Estonian-Latvian brotherhood in arms for the sake of independence, which dated back to those days. The President of the Republic highlighted the cooperation already conducted within the Baltic Battalion, joint operations of the Baltic naval unit BALTRON and the existence of an air surveillance system covering all three countries.

The President of the Republic of Latvia expressed her gratitude to the Estonians for their readiness to come and fight for the freedom of Latvians too.

After the parade, President Rüütel met with President Vike-Freiberga. The meeting addressed bilateral relations between Estonia and Latvia and the Baltic States' cooperation within the European Union and NATO. Also the legacy left by the Soviet Union, both countries are forced to take care of, was under discussion. The Heads of State noted that in different EU countries the notion of minorities varied considerably, wherefore it was not possible to apply to all cases the same norms.
