The President's Roundtable on National Minorities held a joint meeting with Russia's Roundtables on National Minorities
24.05.2004

Today, a meeting of the President's Roundtable on National Minorities opened by the President took place at the Estonian National Library.

The meeting focussed on issues connected with the implementation of the Cultural Autonomy Act and the current situation of Sunday schools, on which the participants were briefed by representatives of the Ministry of Education and Research.

The meeting of the roundtable this time was attended by guests from Russia: the Stavropol Territory, Moscow, the Chuvash Republic and the Republic of Bashkortostan. Taking Estonia as an example, several roundtables on national minorities have been established in Russia. Representatives of these roundtables came to Estonia to familiarize themselves with the work of the President's Roundtable of National Minorities.

The President's Roundtable on National Minorities is a standing advisory conference operating under the auspices of the President of the Republic since 10 July 1993, which consists of an expert group and a chamber of national minorities' representatives, and the purpose of which is to discuss matters of political and public life, including ethnic, economic and socio-political issues.
