The President of the Republic visited the Tartu University Hospital

The President of the Republic visited the Tartu University HospitalPresident Arnold Rüütel today opened a conference to mark the bicentenary of Tartu University Hospital and visited the main building of the hospital.

In the morning, the President of the Republic as patron of the Celebration of the Bicentenary of Tartu University Hospital opened the Conference "The Tartu University Hospital and Internationalisation - Hospitals in Changing Times" at the Vanemuine Concert House. President Rüütel in his opening address said that the TU Hospital in Estonia held the leading position both in providing medical treatment and in medical education.

The Estonian Head of State also emphasized that public health due to the development of integration processes in the world continued to face new challenges. "In the common network of the European Union, all Member States are expected to work together in fighting diseases, researching their reasons and disseminating health care information," said the President of the Republic.

Thereafter, President Rüütel visited the Tartu University Hospital familiarizing himself with diagnostic tests for cardiovascular diseases, computed brain research, and magnetic and computed tomography. The President of the Republic also visited the Department of Traumatology and Cardiac Surgery. The Chairman of the Board of the Tartu University Clinicum Foundation, Urmas Siigur, in addition to that presented to President Rüütel the development programme of the hospital associated with plans to build a new clinic.
