The President of the Republic met with the President of Switzerland18.05.2004
 President Arnold Rüütel on his official visit to Switzerland today met with Joseph Deiss, President of the Swiss Confederation. President Deiss expressed admiration for Estonia's success that was clearly exemplified, among other things, by qualifying for EU and NATO membership. The Estonian Head of State thanked Switzerland and its people for their all-round assistance given to Estonia and voiced delight at Switzerland's intention to open an embassy in Tallinn.
The President of the Republic invited the Swiss Head of State to visit Estonia. President Deiss accepted the invitation.
In addition, possibilities of future cooperation between Switzerland and Estonia, particularly in the fields of economy and education, were discussed at the meeting. The Heads of State agreed that our bilateral cooperation due to the deepening cooperation between Switzerland and the European Union definitely would strengthen. They also talked about how to promote Swiss-Estonian joint projects directed toward third countries.
President Rüütel today will also visit Bern and Zurich, and tomorrow continue his visit by calling at agricultural establishments.
