The President of the Republic met the Minister of Economic Affairs and Communications01.04.2004
President Arnold Rüütel today at Kadriorg met with Minister of Economic Affairs and Communications Meelis Atonen. Minister Atonen gave the President an overview of problems and possibilities associated with the use of money received through the European Union Structural Funds.
President Rüütel stressed that with European Union subsidies and our own government funding it would in next years be possible to implement a strong regional policy. In the President's view, these funds would allow to speed up Estonia's development, for instance, to encourage enterprise and infrastructure projects, and to promote nature tourism. President Rüütel also suggested that, in order to get best results, local initiative and spirit of enterprise should be harnessed to the maximum extent.
In addition, the President of the Republic took interest in the free movement of labour and corporate income tax rates in the European Union.
