The President of the Republic received an appeal of the Federation of Estonian Student Unions
16.03.2004

President Rüütel today at Kadriorg met with representatives of the Federation of Estonian Student Unions (FESU) who handed to him an appeal advocating the students' right to get subsistence benefits irrespective of the income of their parents.

According to the appeal, the students, for the purpose of granting them benefits, should not be coupled with their parents, and subsistence benefits should be granted considering students' economic situation, not their academic performance.

More than 6,000 students from over ten universities have signed the FESU appeal, which has been submitted also to the Riigikogu, the Government and the Legal Chancellor.
