The President of the Republic and Mrs. Rüütel attended Mother Language Day Concert
14.03.2004

The President of the Republic and Mrs. Ingrid Rüütel today at the Estonia Concert Hall attended a concert of the Estonian Mixed Choirs' Union dedicated to the Mother Language Day.

Mrs. Rüütel in her welcoming address stressed that the music performed in our mother language was also a manifestation of the mother language, and disapproved of situations where commercial culture performed in foreign languages overshadowed our own culture, including our singing culture.

"All peoples, their languages and cultures are unique, and their existence constitutes the world's common wealth," Ingrid Rüütel said. "In order to survive as a nation, we must consciously preserve our language and culture, and pass them on to the posterity" she added concluding her remarks.
