The President of the Republic opened a cross-country ski trip at Aegviidu

President Rüütel today at Aegviidu opened The President's Ski TripPresident Rüütel today at Aegviidu opened "The President's Ski Trip", which took place on the ten-kilometre-long Aeviidu-Nelijärve-Jäneda ski trail.

The President of the Republic opening the trip emphasized the importance of sport for all. President Rüütel noted that spending holidays in nature had always been characteristic of Estonian families, and emphasized that sporting outdoors benefited both body and mind.

Having opened the ski trip at the railway station of Aegviidu, President Rüütel headed for Jäneda. There, the President of the Republic took part in the opening of an exhibition by painter Aili Vint, met with the History Club of Jäneda Agricultural College and attended an event where future visions for the region were presented.

"The President's Ski Trip" was organised by local activists in collaboration with local authorities of Jäneda, lying in the County of Järvamaa, and Aegviidu, lying in the County of Harjumaa, and named in honour of two Presidents linked with Jäneda. President Päts contributed actively to the foundation of Jäneda Agricultural College, whereas President Rüütel studied and was actively involved in sport at this college.

"The President's Ski Trip" will become a tradition and be carried out each year on the first Saturday following the anniversary of the Republic of Estonia.
