The President of the Republic met with Minister of Agriculture05.02.2004
President Arnold Rüütel today at Kadriorg met with Minister of Agriculture Tiit Tammsaar. The Minister gave the President of the Republic an overview of Estonia's preparedness to use EU payments in the field of rural life and agriculture.
The meeting addressed several issues connected with the implementation of the EU Common Agricultural Policy. The interlocutors agreed that, at present, it was important to both landowners and land users to register before March 15 in the Estonian Agricultural Registers and Information Board all farmland in use, in relation to which they intended, either this year or in future, to apply for EU area payments. President Rüütel and Minister Tammsaar being landowners themselves have also decided to register their farmland in use since the number of hectares declared by Estonia for receiving support payments this time will be final for the years to come.
