The President of the Republic met the Governor of Eesti Pank
27.01.2004

The President of the Republic, Arnold Rüütel, today at Kadriorg met with the Governor of Eesti Pank, Vahur Kraft. Also Märten Ross, Deputy Governor of Eesti Pank, and Martin Põder, Head of the Bank's International and External Relations Department, took part in the meeting. Their meeting addressed the prospects and risks of Estonia's economic development as well as the timing of euro's launch and preparations for that. Vahur Kraft noted that, in order to maintain economic stability, the state's message to the private sector should both support its confidence in future and help keep balance.

President Rüütel expressed his conviction that well thought through and consequent reforms, social stability, and forward-looking policy were in the interests of Estonia's future. The President of the Republic and the representatives of the Bank of Estonia at their meeting also discussed issues connected with launching euro in Estonia while agreeing that it was a natural step in Estonia's economic development, which would strengthen Estonia's position regarding economic policy. At the same, thorough preparations were deemed most essential

At the end of the meeting, President Rüütel thanked the Governor of Eesti Pank for his thus-far businesslike and constructive cooperation.
