The President of the Republic met the Ambassador of Iran

President Rüütel received the Ambassador of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Javad Kajouyan Fini, who presented his letter of credencePresident Rüütel today at noon at Kadriorg received the Ambassador of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Javad Kajouyan Fini, who presented his letter of credence.

The President of the Republic noted that Estonia and Iran while cherishing common human values worked together in order to ensure in the globalizing world peace, prosperity and sustainable development. "Estonia takes interest in cultural cooperation with Iran - in Iran's ancient culture and the Persian language. And the relationship between our two countries benefits also from people-to-people contacts," the Estonian Head of State added.

The President of the Republic in his speech once more offered sympathies and condolences to the families of those perished in the Bam earthquake. "This cataclysm has shocked the whole world. Apart from terrible human casualties, the destruction of the historic city of Bam was also a great loss for the world in cultural-historical context," President Rüütel said.

President Rüütel agreed with the thoughts expressed by the Ambassador that Estonia and Iran should expand cooperation both bilaterally and internationally, and wished the Ambassador a great success in his mission promoting relations between the two countries.
