The President of the Republic to make a state visit to Cyprus

President Arnold Rüütel and Mrs Ingrid Rüütel on 7 January accompanied by an official and a business delegation will embark on state visit to the Republic of Cyprus.

The President of Cyprus, Tassos Papadopoulos, will meet the Estonian Head of State in Nicosia. President Rüütel by his today's resolution on the occasion of his state visit conferred on President Papadopoulos the Collar of the Cross of Terra Mariana.

During the state visit scheduled to last until January 10, President Rüütel will also meet with the Foreign Minister of Cyprus, George Iacovou, the Acting President of the Parliament of Cyprus, Dr. Vassos Lyssarides, and the Mayor of Nicosia, Honorary Consul General of Estonia Michael Zampelas. On top of that, the President of the Republic will attend an economic forum at the Cyprus Chamber of Commerce and Industry, visit the Chrysoroyiatissa Monastery, the House of the Late President of Cyprus, Archbishop Makarios III, and the town of Pafos.

In the course of the meetings, interstate agreements will be signed. Minister of Culture Urmas Paet will sign an agreement on cultural and educational cooperation, Minister of Internal Affairs Margus Leivo will sign an agreement on combating organized crime. Deputy Under-Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Tiina Intelmann will sign a cooperation protocol between the Ministries of Foreign Affairs.

To the official delegation accompanying the President of the Republic will belong Minister of Internal Affairs Margus Leivo, Minister of Economic Affairs and Communications Meelis Atonen, Minister of Culture Urmas Paet, State Secretary Heiki Loot, Vice Admiral Tarmo Kõuts, Governor of Eesti Pank Vahur Kraft, County Governor of Võrumaa Mait Klaassen, and others. The President of the Republic will be accompanied also by a nine-member business delegation headed by Toomas Luman, President of the Estonian Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
