President Rüütel met the Presidents of Armenia and Croatia

The President of the Republic today in Geneva within the framework of the forum on information society met with the President of Armenia, Robert Kocharian. Their meeting addressed the political situation in the Transcaucasian region. In addition, the Presidents talked about the Estonian-Armenian cooperation in the context of the development of information society.

President Rüütel highlighted the hitherto good cooperation between the two countries in the framework of E-Governance Academy and voiced hope that Estonia in future could share with Armenia its experience concerning, for instance, the process of joining the European Union.

President Kocharian emphasized that Armenia's economic progress made in recent years had exerted a stabilising influence on the entire Transcaucasian region. He also expressed interest in the opportunity that Armenia could continuously share the experience of the Baltic States in various fields. President Kocharian also voiced his satisfaction that after his visit to Estonia in 2002 the economic ties between the two countries had made a significant headway.

The President of the Republic today met also with the President of Croatia, Stjepan Mesić. At the meeting, both Heads of State expressed interest in building a closer relationship between our countries. They talked about improving the road connection between the Baltic and Balkan countries, and about the progress both countries had made in information technology as well. The President of Croatia acknowledged Estonia’s progress in developing information technology and added that Croatia was definitely interested in a closer acquaintance with this progress.
