The President of the Republic to speak at a history conference

President Rüütel tomorrow at 11:00 am will deliver a speech at a history conference dedicated to the 85th anniversary of the Republic of Estonia, which will take place in the National Library.

On the first day of the two-day conference, also Professor Seppo Zetterberg from the University of Jyväskylä as well as Doctor Lauri Mälksoo and Professor Tiit Rosenberg from the University of Tartu will speak. On Friday evening, at the end of the first conference day, a film programme compiled by the Filmarchives of the National Archives of Estonia will be demonstrated.

On Saturday, November 22, three thematic sections: "Possibilities of Existence of Small States in the 20th Century Europe", "Importance of National Culture in Preserving Identity" and "Legal Continuity in the Estonian Statehood" will take place.

The proposal to organise on the occasion of the 85th anniversary of the Republic of Estonia, in particular, on the occasion of the jubilee of government agencies, a historic conference, was made by the President of the Republic, Arnold Rüütel. The Ministry of Education and Research of the Republic of Estonia committed itself to carrying out and financing the conference.
