The President of the Republic to speak in Martti Ahtisaari lecture series

President Rüütel on 17 November at the University of Jyväskylä will deliver this year's Martti Ahtisaari lecture addressing the Baltic Sea Region and European Union Cooperation.

Before the lecture, President Rüütel will tour the City of Jyväskylä, visit the University of Jyväskylä and open an exhibition by artist Valli Lember-Bogatkina in the main building of the university.

The lecture series on world politics bearing the name of Martti Ahtisaari features top politicians from Finland and other countries. The tradition of the lectures dates back to November 1999, when the Presidents of Latvia, Lithuania, Estonia and Finland met in Jyväskylä to mark the tenth anniversary of the end of the Cold War. On 17 November, also Martti Ahtisaari, President of the Republic of Finland in the years 1994-2000, will come to listen to the lecture of President Rüütel.
