The President of the Republic to complete his state visit to the Republic of Malta

The President of the Republic together with the accompanying delegations visited GozoPresident Rüütel and Mrs Ingrid Rüütel this evening will complete their state visit to the Republic of Malta.

This morning, the President of the Republic together with the accompanying delegations visited Gozo, the second largest island of Malta, where they were welcomed by the Minister of Regional Affairs, Mrs Giovanna Debono. Thereafter, the guests visited nearly 5,500-year-old temples, the Fortress and the Folk Art Museum of Gozo.

President Rüütel summarizing his state visit noted that Estonia and Malta had excellent preconditions for both interstate cooperation and cooperation within the European Union. According to the President of the Republic, both countries attached importance to cooperation among small countries in shaping the future of the European Union.

The Estonian Head of State deemed it possible to develop also economic relations between the two countries, notably in the field of tourism since both the Estonians and the Maltese were interested in the distinctiveness of each other's countries.

This evening, the official farewell ceremony will take place at the Malta Airport. President Rüütel will return to Estonia late this evening.
