The President of the Republic congratulated the President of Latvia

President Arnold Rüütel today from New York phoned Latvian President Vaira Vike-Freiberga to congratulate her on the decision of the Latvian people to join the European Union. The President of the Republic stressed that President Freibergas authority had definitely helped to the reach a result like this in Latvia.
The Latvian President thanked President Rüütel for his personal contribution to the EU information campaign in Latvia and expressed conviction that the views of the Estonian President had helped to win over a good few of those hesitant about the European Union earlier.
