President Arnold Rüütel today at Kadriorg met with Chairwoman of the Riigikogu Ene Ergma and Prime Minister Juhan Parts to summarize the results of our EU referendum.
The President of the Republic thanked the Chairwoman of the Riigikogu, the Prime Minister, and the Head of the European Union Information Secretariat, Hannes Rumm, for their great work done during the EU information campaign. The Chairwoman of the Riigikogu and the Prime Minister on their part thanked President Rüütel for his decisive and vigorous participation in the campaign. According to Prime Minister Parts, he was delighted at the cooperation with the President of the Republic and the Chairwoman of the Riigikogu. He found that this was a good example of how important national tasks can be performed together and expressed hope that their good cooperation continued in future.
All three of them deemed it important that our turnout had been the highest among the East and Central European acceding countries, for this demonstrated that the people were interested in their own and the nation's fate. Chairwoman of the Riigikogu Ene Ergma emphasized that she deemed it vital that various institutions and political parties had carried out the EU information campaign jointly, proving their willingness to work together.
