The President of the Republic met the First Minister for Wales

President Rüütel at Viljandi met with First Minister for Wales Rhodri MorganPresident Rüütel this morning at Viljandi met with First Minister for Wales Rhodri Morgan. Their meeting addressed the topics of cooperation between Estonia and Wales, future of small peoples' languages and cultures, and Estonia's possible accession to the European Union.

According to Minister Morgan, Wales was seeking possibilities to cooperate with one of the smallest countries and regions among the new Member States of the European Union, and they saw just Estonia as their possible new partner.

The President of the Republic expressed interest in how the European Union had influenced the development of Wales. Minister Morgan contended that the membership of the European Union had been a most positive experience and Wales had received much aid from the EU structural funds.

Minister Rhodri Morgan on his visit to Estonia is accompanied by representatives of six Welsh enterprises investigating possibilities to establish cooperation with Estonian enterprises.

First Minister is the Head of regional Welsh Government.
