The President of the Republic sent a message of condolences to the UN Secretary-General

President Arnold Rüütel this morning sent to UN Secretary-General Kofi Annan a message of condolences over the terrorist attack on the UN Headquarters in Baghdad on 19 August.

The message of condolences runs as follows: "Nothing can justify such violence against people whose sole aim in going to Iraq was to help the state and people of Iraq during this difficult period of time. The UN is an organisation, which joins states and nations with the best intent and skill. Terrorist attacks against the UN are most regretful and undermine the security of each of us.

Please accept my sincere sympathy to the families of the casualties and you personally."
