The President of the Republic met with the President of Mongolia

The President of the Republic of Mongolia, Mr Natsagiin Bagabandi, and Mrs Azadsurengiin Oyunbileg met with the President of the Republic of Estonia and Mrs Ingrid RüütelThe President of the Republic of Mongolia, Mr Natsagiin Bagabandi, and Mrs Azadsurengiin Oyunbileg arrived on an official visit to Estonia and, this morning at Kadriorg, met with the President of the Republic of Estonia and Mrs Ingrid Rüütel.

At the official welcoming ceremony in front of the Presidential Palace, the national anthems of Mongolia and Estonia were played and a guard of honour was lined up. Estonian and Mongolian high-ranking officials and members of the respective delegations greeted the Presidents. The welcoming ceremony was followed by talks between the Presidents, in the course of which an exchange of gifts took place as well.

Talking about the Estonian-Mongolian bilateral relations, the Heads of State noted that Estonia and Mongolia had good preconditions for cooperation. President Bagabandi said that Mongolia was very interested in learning more about Estonia's great strides, notably about its experience in the fields of liberalisation and privatisation of economy, and in promoting the development of agriculture and farms.

The Presidents expanded on the economic relations between Mongolia and Estonia. President Bagabandi is accompanied by a business delegation and, in his words, the Mongolian market was always open to Estonian businessmen and goods. The President of Mongolia wished Estonia to assist his country in entering new markets in North and East Europe. The President of Estonia found that economic relations between the two countries, despite the long geographical distance, had good prospects but for that purpose the contractual basis between our countries was to be strengthened first.

Promotion of ties in the field of education, culture and research was under discussion too. The Estonian President found that since, in Estonia, it was possible to learn several professions in English, Mongolian youth could be interested in opportunities to study at Estonian universities. The Mongolian President agreed with this idea and opined that Estonian youth, in turn, could study Asian cultures, languages and art in Mongolia. He also took interest in exchange of scientists.

According to President Bagabandi, Mongolia supported Estonia’s endeavours to join the European Union and NATO. The President of Mongolia invited the President of Estonia to visit Mongolia.

The Mongolian President later today is going to meet also with Chairwoman of the Riigikogu Ene Ergma, Prime Minister Juhan Parts, and Chairwoman of Tallinn's City Council Maret Maripuu. On top of that, President Bagabandi will visit the Port of Tallinn and our Open Air Museum.

In the evening, the Ambassador of Mongolia to the Republic of Estonia, Mr Tugalkhuu Baasansuren, and the Head of the Estonian Radio, Mr Ain Saarna, will sign a cooperation agreement between the Estonian Radio and the Mongolian Radio.

Later this evening, the President of the Republic of Estonia and Mrs Ingrid Rüütel at the Kadriorg Art Museum will host a dinner in honour of the President of the Republic of Mongolia and Mrs Azadsurengiin Oyunbileg.

The President of Mongolia is accompanied by a press and business delegation.
