The President of the Republic met with the Ambassador of Zambia
05.06.2003

President Arnold Rüütel today at Kadriorg received the credentials of the Ambassador of the Republic of Zambia, H.E. Mrs. Sarah Kafwembe.

President Rüütel said at the meeting that Estonia was interested in increasing knowledge of each other and expanding economic and tourism contacts between our countries. According to the President of the Republic, one of promising areas of collaboration could be trusting and friendly cooperation in international organisations, first of all in the UN.

The Estonian Head of State noted that Estonia and Zambia despite a long geographical distance between them had a lot in common: "Both of them are engaged in processes of transition aimed at a more rapid and democratic development of our societies. We have watched with sympathy Zambia's efforts on its way towards economic and social progress. Zambia – successful in economic terms and advancing steadily, is a good and cooperative partner to all its neighbours."

According to the Ambassador of Zambia, Zambia sought to move away from the donor-recipient relationship with the outside world, to a new partnership based on mutual respect, genuine cooperation and free trade, and, in this regard, valued the readiness of the Republic of Estonia to strengthen relations between our two countries.
