The President of the Republic met with the Minister of Defence28.05.2003
President Arnold Rüütel today at Kadriorg discussed with Defence Minister Margus Hanson issues of Estonia's defence strategy.
The Head of State and the Minister of Defence were of one accord that Estonia should support, on the one hand, strengthening of the Transatlantic defence bridge and, on the other hand, consolidation of the European joint forces for crisis management. At the same time, Estonia does not support creation of duplicating structures.
The Minister informed the President of his meetings with the Defence Ministers of Finland, Latvia and Lithuania. The Baltic Ministers of Defence had decided that the Baltic defence cooperation, due to the reorganisation of Baltbat, in future should be concentrated on developing of a joint training and staff centre.
