The President of the Republic at Paikuse visited a residential area for young families
27.05.2003

The President of the Republic at Paikuse familiarized himself with residential houses for young families built with the support of local government. President Rüütel has repeatedly emphasized the importance of local government's support to young families setting up their homes.

The Mayor of the Municipality of Paikuse, Kuno Erkmann, suggested that all local governments were in a position to give young families building plots. The Municipality of Paikuse had gone even farther, and so, the company AS Raldor this year had built 28 economical Swedish style detached houses. The price of a house amounted to half a million kroons and a plot usually to 1000 square metres. Intending to expand the project, they had already bought 70 more plots.

President Rüütel expressed appreciation to the municipality for this initiative and found that other municipalities, too, could show initiatives like this.

In the forenoon, the President of the Republic visited the restored Memorial Church of Estonian Soldiers at Tori, where Jüri Kask, initiator of the restoration, acquainted the President with the church. Thereafter, President Rüütel planted an oak at the church. The President of the Republic also visited the Klaara-Manni Farm Resort and the Dairy Cooperative of Tori-Selja.
