The President of the Republic, the Chairwoman of the Riigikogu and the Prime Minister discussed the referendum information campaign

President Arnold Rüütel, Chairwoman of the Riigikogu Ene Ergma and Prime Minister Juhan Parts met this evening at Kadriorg to discuss the goals of information activities prior to the referendum on our accession to the European Union.

The heads of constitutional institutions held that the main goal of the information campaign was to achieve that as many voters as possible participated in the referendum on 14 September of this year. They expressed unanimous readiness to take part in the information work for the sake of this decision determining Estonia's future to be made.

The President, the Chairwoman of the Riigikogu and the Prime Minister wish to be in the know about the information activities, the organizers of which are going to be advised by a working group consisting of their representatives. In addition to representatives of the President's Office, Chancellery of the Riigikogu and Prime Minister’s Office, also representatives of the European Union Secretariat, European Union Information Secretariat and Foreign Ministry will belong to the working group. Apart from briefing the President, the Chairwoman of the Parliament and the Prime Minister on the campaign's progress, the working group will advise the European Union Information Secretariat of the State Chancellery who is responsible for the information activities.

The next meeting of the three heads of constitutional institutions will take place in June.
