The President of the Republic congratulated the President of Lithuania12.05.2003
President Arnold Rüütel this afternoon called the President of the Republic of Lithuania, Rolandas Paksas, to congratulate him and through him the whole people of Lithuania on the success of their referendum on EU accession.
The Estonian Head of State in his telephone conversation with President Paksas spoke highly of the Lithuanians' great unity expressed with respect to joining the European Union. ''The Lithuanian people have made a most principled decision marking the beginning of a new era for your country,'' President Rüütel said. He added that Estonian voters just had to take Lithuanias decision as an example.
