At the meeting, the development of Albania was under discussion. President Rüütel said that Estonia understood and welcomed Albania’s efforts to continue its reforms and to integrate into Europe. He also assured that Estonia was willing to assist, with its experience, Albania in carrying out the reforms.

According to the President, implementation of the Baltic States' cooperation experience in other regions could be helpful too. "Stability and well-being in the Balkans means still larger development potential for our whole continent," the Estonian Head of State noted.

The Ambassador of Albania thanked Estonia for its contribution to the solution of the Kosovo crisis and to the reform process in his country. He conveyed to the Estonian Head of State greetings from the President of Albania and also an invitation to visit Albania.

During the discussion, both sides voiced the hope that the burgeoning relationship between Estonia and Albania soon reached the stage of signing bilateral agreements, which would open the way for economic intercourse as well.
