The President's Academic Council discussed Estonia's development strategy
08.04.2003

The President's Academic Council assembled today at Kadriorg to discuss a strategy for Estonia's sustained development.

The Strategy for the Development of the Estonian State and Society until the Year 2030 has been drawn up by a syndicate formed on the basis of six institutions, the leading group of which authorized the Members of the Academic Council: Mati Heidmets, Rector of the Pedagogical University of Tallinn, Jaan-Mati Punning, Director of the Institute of Ecology, and Erik Terk, Director of the Estonian Institute for Future Studies, to present the paper on their behalf.

It is a development plan covering the whole society and offering solutions and development directions for ensuring sustainability and long-term success. For this purpose, in the experts' estimation, survival of the Estonian traditional values and cultural area, growth of people’s well-being, cohesion of society and ecological balance have to be guaranteed. In the course of the discussion, the Members of the Academic Council concurred in the view of the leading group that the solutions offered could form the basis for our national agreement as well.
