The President of the Republic nominated the candidate for Prime Minister02.04.2003
President Arnold Rüütel this morning continued his talks to form the new Government by meeting at Kadriorg with the Chairman of the Res Publica, Juhan Parts.
According to the Head of State, he had by now consulted with the leaders of all political parties elected to the Riigikogu who, among other things, had presented him their visions of Estonia's main development directions and of the future government coalition. The President emphasized that the new Government, just like the intended national agreement, should strive for improvement of Estonias demographic situation.
"Our task is to carry out a forward-looking population policy, to support young healthy families and to provide all children, irrespective of their social and health status, with a good education," the President said.
Juhan Parts assured that the same goals would be set by the coalition agreement to be concluded soon.
Thereafter, the President signed the resolution designating Juhan Parts the candidate for Prime Minister and assigning to him the task of forming the new Government of the Republic. Juhan Parts thanked the Head of State for his confidence.
