The President of the Republic visited power stations

President Arnold Rüütel today was in Narva to get firsthand knowledge of how the reconstruction of the power stations is progressing there.

In the forenoon, the Head of State visited the power station Eesti Elektrijaam where he met with the leaders of the power supply company AS Eesti Energia and power station AS Narva Elektrijaamad. During his stay there, the President was provided with an overview of the development potential of oil shale energy and alternative energy in Estonia. Board members of Foster Wheeler, the company carrying out the work, gave him explanations about the reconstruction of the 8th energy generating block. Thereafter, the Head of State familiarized himself with the construction of the 11th block of the power station Balti Elektrijaam, where he also talked with workers and builders of the station.

On his way from Narva back to Tallinn, the President at Jõhvi will meet with local government leaders of the County of Ida-Viru and call at AS Eesti Põlevkivi, a company mining oil shale.
