The President of the Republic received congratulations on the Independence Day

President Arnold Rüütel on the occasion of the 85th anniversary of the Republic of Estonia has received congratulations from both our home country and abroad.

Pope John Paul II, King Juan Carlos of Spain, President of Latvia Vaira Vike-Freiberga, President of Finland Tarja Halonen, President of Ireland Mary McAleese, President of Iceland Ólafur Ragnar Grímsson, President of Switzerland Pascal Couchepin, Governor General of Canada Adrienne Clarkson, President of Ukraine Leonid Kuchma, and President of Cyprus Glafcos Clerides have sent to the President their congratulations. The Head of State of Estonia has also been congratulated by Patriarch Alexy II of Moscow and all Russia.

The congratulations sent by Queen Beatrix of the Netherlands, King Carl XVI Gustaf of Sweden, President of France Jacques Chirac, President of Hungary Ferenc Mádl, Queen Elizabeth II of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, President of Russia Vladimir Putin, President of Germany Johannes Rau, President of the United States of America George W. Bush, Emperor Akihito of Japan, President of China Jiang Zemin, President of Croatia Stjepan Mesić, President of Israel Moshe Katzav, President of Italy Carlo Azeglio Ciampi, President of Poland Aleksander Kwasniewski have arrived at Kadriorg already at the weekend.

The President has received congratulations on the Independence Day also from many residents and establishments of Estonia, for example from the children of the 2nd Nursery School of Kuressaare, the pupils of the Upper Secondary School of Türi, the members of the 20th August Club, and many others.
