The President of the Republic met with representatives of taxpayers
04.02.2003

President Arnold Rüütel today at Kadriorg met with Ants Veetõusme and Kersti Kurre, respectively Chairman of the Board and Manager of the Estonian Association of Taxpayers, in order to be informed about the activities of the association and the implications of the Estonian tax system.

The partners in the meeting were of one accord that the ongoing debate on income tax reform should be turned into a discussion about our national goals of development and a tax system tailored to back them, however, the reforms needed for that purpose should be dealt with in an all-inclusive way. The representatives of the Taxpayers’ Association supported the principle of a stable tax system motivating it by the experience that self-employed taxpayers, in the process of amending laws, were not capable of protecting their rights and interests. The Head of State emphasized that a perfect tax system should encourage spirit of enterprise, creation of new jobs, people to earn their own living, yet, also regional development and growth in population.
