The President of the Republic received The Friend of Enterprise Award17.01.2003
President Arnold Rüütel today at the Kadriorg Presidential Palace met with the representatives of the Estonian Association of Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (EVEA): Jüri Järviste, Tiit Raag, Riina Danielson and Riivo Sinijärv.
The representatives of EVEA handed to the Head of State The Friend of Enterprise 2002 Award. The award was conferred on the President for he has deemed it necessary and, within the limits of his official duties found possibilities, to support small business as the main engine of Estonia's economic growth, and for his deeds concerning small enteprise have not differed from his words.
President Arnold Rüütel was the patron of the Enterprise Year 2002.
At today's meeting, opportunities to boost business in rural regions and to make the dialogue both with the state and local governments more productive were under discussion. The representatives of entrepreneurs maintained that it was very vital to strive for the demand for a stable business environment to be included in our national agreement. In this respect, they underscored the utmost importance of steady taxation rates enabling businessmen to reasonably plan and carry out their business. For the purpose of boosting business outside the capital city, business incubators and industrial villages, the state actively participating in the development of their infrastructure should be set up.
The President of the Republic said that the problems put forward were most decisive in view of the further development of business and promised to contribute to solving the problems of businessmen in future as well.
At the end of the meeting, both the Head of State and the representatives of EVEA voiced hope that the activities broached helped to enhance in the eyes of the Estonian public the prestige of fair business as a life-style.
