The President of the Republic to attend the opening session of the chamber of national minorities

The Chamber of Representatives of the President's Roundtable of National Minorities is going to assemble for its first session at 10.00 a.m. tomorrow, 9 November, at the National Library. The opening address of the session will be delivered by President Arnold Rüütel.

At the opening session, also Minister Eldar Efendiyev, Deputy Secretary General of the Ministry of Education Madis Lepajõe, County Governor of Ida-Virumaa Rein Aidma, Mayor of Tallinn Edgar Savisaar, Mayor of Narva Imre Liiv and others have promised to speak.

The President of the Republic last May endorsed the new rules of procedure of the Roundtable of National Minorities, according to which, beside the roundtable's board of experts, also a chamber of representatives was to take up its activities. The chamber is made up of representatives of national minorities' cultural and educational societies who submit their proposals to resolve the problems of our state and society to the roundtable's board of experts. The proposals, recommendations and statements of the chamber of representatives shall be adopted when at least two thirds of the roundtable's members participating in the meeting have voted for them. The chamber of representatives shall inform about its activities the public too.
